Frequently Asked Questions
How long does accreditation take?
We recommend starting your CoreRated accreditation at least two weeks before your event so you have time to plan, gather evidence, and log your activities as you go. Once the event has finished and you have submitted your post-event evidence, our review and verification process typically takes up to two weeks. This approach reflects how important it is to provide you with your certification quickly, while still allowing enough buffer time for careful auditing, quality checks, and resolving any queries about your submission.
Do I need to hire a consultant?
No. CoreRated is designed to carry out the key functions of an event sustainability consultant, with criteria and guidance aligned to ISO practices and other relevant international standards. The tool provides clear, step-by-step prompts and evidence guidance so that most organisers can manage the process themselves, even if they are new to sustainability. You are of course free to work with a consultant if you want additional bespoke support, but it is not a requirement for using CoreRated or achieving certification.
Can I use links to my existing documents?
Yes. CoreRated is designed so that evidence is submitted via links to your existing documents and shared folders, rather than uploading raw files into the tool. This means you can continue using your normal document platforms (for example SharePoint, Google Drive or similar) and retain full control over version management and access rights, while still allowing our assessors to review the information they need. You simply need to ensure that the links are stable and that the appropriate viewing permissions are granted for verification.
Is the certificate recognised internationally?
CoreRated certification is built on internationally recognised event sustainability standards and good practice, making it relevant and understandable to stakeholders wherever your event takes place. It has already been used by events across multiple continents and in a range of markets, and awareness of the certificate is growing as more organisers choose to adopt it. While there is no single global accreditation body for event sustainability, CoreRated is designed to stand up to scrutiny from sponsors, partners, and regulators around the world.
What types and sizes of events is CoreRated suitable for?
CoreRated can be used for virtually any type and size of event, from small pop-up activations and community events through to large-scale festivals, conferences, trade shows and major sports or entertainment events, including multi-venue city formats and multi-leg tours. A deterministic scoping questionnaire and the ability to add or remove credits within defined limits mean the tool automatically tailors the assessment to the realities of your event, so you only focus effort on actions and evidence that are genuinely relevant to your sites, suppliers, and audiences.
How is my CoreRated score and level (e.g. Silver, Gold, Platinum) calculated?
You start by completing a short questionnaire about your event; CoreRated then uses deterministic logic to generate a list of credits that are in scope for your specific set-up. From there, you review this list, remove a managed portion to focus effort, and optionally add any extra credits you want to target, creating your final list of selected credits. Your score is simply the percentage of those selected credits that you complete with sufficient, event-specific evidence, with no rounding up, and your recognition level is based on that score (from 25% for Silver, 50% for Gold, and 75% for Platinum).
What kind of evidence do I need to provide for accreditation?
Evidence is based on what you already use to run the event well, such as sustainability policies and management plans, supplier and vendor contracts, site layouts and operations plans, website or ticketing copy, email templates, training and briefing records, monitoring logs, metrics exports (for example meter reads, fuel logs, waste tickets, survey results), photos or videos, and post-event reports. You provide these as links to your existing cloud folders rather than uploading raw files, and as long as the evidence is legible, dated, clearly linked to the event, and mapped to the relevant credit, it can be used by our verifiers to confirm completion.
How does CoreRated help me make compliant and credible sustainability claims?
CoreRated is designed to turn your sustainability story into an auditable record, so that any public claims you make are specific, evidenced, and defensible rather than generic “green” statements. Each completed credit must be backed by clear, event-specific evidence, and the Technical Guide includes governance guidance and tools such as a Green Claims Register that align with recognised ISO standards and leading UK, EU and US green claims rules. This means that when you communicate outcomes (for example waste diversion, travel initiatives, or use of renewable electricity), you can point to a structured trail of data, documents, and decisions that shows exactly what was done, how it was measured, and which edition of the event it applies to.
